The OSG 8710860 is a taper length, solid carbide drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding machining applications. Built to Series 6530 standards, it features a 140-degree split point with X-thinning for reduced thrust and improved centering at entry. The EgiAs coating provides enhanced lubricity and heat resistance during high-speed cutting. At 0.3386 inches (8.60 mm) in diameter with a 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is suited for deep-hole drilling where chip evacuation and rigidity are critical. Coolant-through capability supports high-feed, production-level operations. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling specialist is the typical end user.
This drill bit is well suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production turning applications. The straight shank and 10.00 mm shank diameter allow direct chuck or collet mounting in standard toolholding systems. The extended flute length of 115.00 mm (approximately 4.53 inches) and 165.00 mm (approximately 6.50 inches) overall length make it appropriate for through-hole and deep-bore work where a jobber-length bit would fall short. Industrial manufacturing, aerospace, mold and die, and general metalworking shops are the primary application environments.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with toolholding systems that accept a 10.00 mm straight shank. Part of the OSG Series 6530 taper length carbide drill program.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine powered down and all motion axes at rest. Secure the straight shank fully within the collet or chuck to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and coolant supply is active before engaging a deep-hole drilling cycle. Inspect the cutting edge and point geometry before each use — solid carbide tooling is brittle and should be removed from service at the first sign of chipping or point wear.
