The OSG 8710490 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding production environments. With a cutting diameter of 0.1929 inches (4.90 mm) and a 140-degree split point angle, this bit delivers clean entry and reduced thrust on hard materials. The EgiAs coating provides enhanced wear resistance and lubricity for extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. X-thinned web geometry reduces cutting force at the tip. At 115.00 mm overall length with a 65.00 mm flute length, it handles deep-hole applications with a 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio. Coolant-through design supports high-pressure internal coolant delivery for chip evacuation in deep bore work.
This drill bit is suited for CNC machining centers, drilling cells, and precision manual drilling operations in metalworking, aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing environments. The straight shank with a 6.00 mm shank diameter fits standard collet chucks and drill chucks in that bore range. Right-hand spiral flute geometry makes it compatible with conventional right-hand spindle rotation. It is appropriate for shops drilling tight-tolerance holes in alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials where carbide tooling is specified over HSS.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard production drill bit for use in collet chucks and drill chucks accepting a 6.00 mm straight shank, part of the OSG Series 6530 taper length carbide drill line.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle at a complete stop and machine power isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight shank fully and evenly in the collet or chuck before tightening to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and coolant pressure is set to the machine and tooling specification before running. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to side-loading or interrupted cuts.
