The OSG 8704640 is a taper length solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. It features a 140-degree split point geometry and an EgiAs coating finish, which helps reduce friction and extend tool life in high-cycle production environments. The bit has a 0.2520-inch (6.40 mm) diameter, a straight shank with an 8.00 mm shank diameter, and an overall length of 125.00 mm (approximately 4.92 inches). The spiral flute design with X-thinned web promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces thrust force during entry. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone, supporting deep-hole drilling applications. This bit is sold individually as a single unit.
The OSG 8704640 is suited for machine shop production drilling, CNC machining centers, and precision toolroom work. The 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio and taper length configuration make it appropriate for applications requiring greater depth reach than a jobber-length bit provides. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and CNC spindle use. This bit is typically installed and operated by machinists and CNC operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials in industrial production settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement taper length drill bit within the OSG Series 6520 product line. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses with straight-shank tool holders accepting an 8.00 mm shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify collet or chuck acceptance of the 8.00 mm straight shank before tightening. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that the machine tool coolant supply is properly connected and set to appropriate pressure for the workpiece material.
