The OSG 8693400 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It measures 14.00 mm in diameter with an overall length of 176.00 mm and a flute length of 112.00 mm. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry promotes self-centering entry and reduces thrust in harder workpiece materials. The EgiAs coating adds wear resistance and thermal stability, extending tool life in demanding production environments. Two spiral flutes in a right-hand cutting configuration evacuate chips efficiently. Coolant-through capability supports deep hole applications where heat buildup and chip evacuation are primary concerns.
This drill is suited for machining steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys, covering ISO material codes P, K, S, and H. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and general production drilling where self-centering entry and consistent hole quality are required. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate-depth drilling without excessive deflection. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automated production lines where solid carbide tooling is specified for material hardness or surface finish requirements.
Rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys (ISO material codes P, K, S, and H). Part of OSG Series 6510, covering a drill bit size range of 12.50 mm to 15.00 mm (0.5000 to 0.6500 decimal inch). Diameter tolerance is plus 0 to minus 0.027 mm.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine fully powered down and locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Confirm holder bore and runout specifications before seating the straight-cylindrical shank to avoid concentricity errors. When using coolant-through capability, verify that coolant pressure and flow rate match the machine spindle and toolholder specifications before starting the cut. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use; carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used if chipping or coating delamination is visible.
