The OSG 8692780 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 6510 specifications, it features a 7.8 mm (0.3071 inch) diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point, and an EgiAs coating that extends tool life in abrasive and hard materials. The 2-flute spiral design with a regular helix and tapered web supports efficient chip evacuation, and the coolant-through construction allows internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone. This bit is sized for precision work, carrying a diameter tolerance of +0 to -0.022 mm. It is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes.
The OSG 8692780 is rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys — material group codes P, K, S, and H. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 63 mm flute length make it well suited for blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, and self-centering operations in production and job-shop environments. The straight-cylindrical shank with an 8.00 mm shank diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
Designed as a high-performance replacement-grade jobber drill bit for CNC machining centers and drill presses requiring an 8.00 mm straight shank, 7.8 mm cutting diameter, and coolant-through capability in ferrous and titanium workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing tooling, confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the collet or chuck and verify runout before beginning a production run. Coolant-through bits require a coolant-through spindle or toolholder to realize the full benefit of the internal channel design.
