The OSG 8691470 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries a 0.5787 inch (14.70 mm) diameter and a 140-degree split point angle with R-thinned web geometry that reduces entry thrust and improves centering. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 15.00 mm in diameter and the overall tool length is 140.00 mm (approximately 5.51 inches). Internal coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat control during deep-hole operations. This bit is built for production environments where tool life and hole quality in hard materials are the primary concerns.
The 8691470 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys in CNC machining centers and screw machine setups. Its screw machine (stub) length provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a practical choice for high-cycle production drilling where deflection and runout must be minimized. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support stable chip flow in through-hole and blind-hole applications across a range of workpiece materials.
Designed for use in straight-cylindrical shank tool holders on CNC machining centers and screw machines. Rated for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Diameter falls within the 0.5000 to 0.6000 inch (13.50 to 17.00 mm) size range of the OSG Series 6500 program.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or drill chuck and verify runout before cycling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer-recommended feed and speed parameters for the target workpiece material, and confirm coolant supply is active before engaging the cut when using the through-coolant feature.
