Product Description

The OSG 8691200 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. It measures 12.00 mm in diameter with an overall length of 120.00 mm and a flute length of 60.00 mm, putting it squarely in the 3xD short-length category for maximum rigidity. The 140-degree point angle and R-thinned web geometry reduce thrust force and improve self-centering on entry. The EgiAs coating provides thermal and wear resistance suited to high-speed cutting in hard and abrasive materials. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix handle chip evacuation efficiently. Right-hand cutting with a straight-cylindrical shank at 12.00 mm diameter. Coolant-through capability is included, supporting through-spindle coolant delivery for deep-hole applications.

This bit is intended for machining steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys, making it a practical choice for aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking applications. The screw machine length body keeps overhang short, which improves hole location accuracy and reduces deflection in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes. It is well suited for production drilling where cycle time, tool life, and hole quality are prioritized. The 12.00 mm diameter falls within the 11.00 to 13.50 mm size range of the OSG Series 6500 line.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard materials
  • EgiAs coating provides thermal protection and extended tool life in steel and titanium
  • 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web reduces entry thrust and improves centering
  • Coolant-through design supports through-spindle coolant delivery
  • Screw machine length body minimizes overhang and deflection
  • Diameter tolerance held to +0 to -0.027 mm for consistent hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes with a 12.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank interface. Primary workpiece materials are steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy. Part of the OSG Series 6500 high-performance drill line covering the 11.00 to 13.50 mm diameter range.

Installation Notes

Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds and feeds for carbide tooling. Verify spindle runout and collet or chuck condition before mounting to protect the carbide shank from fretting or chipping. Confirm that through-spindle coolant pressure is compatible with the machine tool and toolholder before enabling coolant-through flow. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts beyond the tool rating, and contact with hard fixtures during setup.
