The OSG 8690850 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production and machining environments. The bit features a 140-degree split point with R-thinned web geometry, reducing thrust load and improving chip evacuation. At 8.50 mm (0.3346 inches) in diameter, the 8690850 runs with a right-hand spiral flute and includes coolant-through capability, making it well suited for high-speed machining centers where heat management is critical. It belongs to OSG Series 6500 and carries a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio with a coated finish for extended tool life.
This drill bit is intended for use in ferrous and hard-material applications including steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The screw machine length designation means a shorter overall body compared to jobber-length bits, providing greater rigidity and reduced runout in CNC machining centers, gang drills, and turret lathes. It is typically installed and operated by machinists and tooling specialists in production shops, job shops, and precision manufacturing facilities.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Fits standard collets and drill chucks accepting a 9.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG Series 6500 high-performance screw machine drill line, covering the 8.00 mm to 9.50 mm diameter range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Verify collet or chuck bore matches the 9.00 mm shank diameter before seating the bit. Coolant-through systems should be confirmed active and at appropriate pressure before initiating cuts to prevent premature tool wear or breakage. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side loads or used in hand-held drilling applications.
