The OSG 8690690 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with OSG's proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating, this bit handles tough workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It features a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry for improved centering and reduced thrust force. With a 6.90 mm diameter, an overall length of 88.00 mm, and a flute length of 35.00 mm, it is sized for stub-length rigidity where deflection and runout must be minimized. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production environments.
This drill bit is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automated production equipment in industrial and job-shop settings. The screw machine length format provides added stiffness compared to jobber-length bits, making it the preferred choice when drilling into steel, cast iron, and hardened workpieces at close tolerances. The straight cylindrical shank with a 7.00 mm diameter seats cleanly in standard collet chucks and drill chucks. It is typically installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working under close-tolerance manufacturing conditions.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank collet chucks and drill chucks accepting a 7.00 mm shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. Part of OSG Series 6500.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck are powered down and locked out before loading or removing the bit. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side loads or impact during handling or setup. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and coolant flow is active before beginning cuts in hard or hardened materials.
