The OSG 8690680 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in tough workpiece materials. Built to Series 6500 specifications, it features a 6.80 mm diameter, a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry, and an EgiAs coating designed to extend tool life in demanding production environments. At 88.00 mm overall length with a 34.00 mm flute length, this stub-style bit delivers increased rigidity compared to jobber-length drills. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 7.00 mm in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed machining applications where heat management is critical.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines where short overall length minimizes deflection and maximizes rigidity. Primary workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry provide efficient chip evacuation in these materials. This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production shops requiring consistent hole quality and tight diameter tolerances.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. The 7.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting shanks in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 decimal inch range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. When using coolant-through capability, confirm the machine spindle and toolholder support internal coolant delivery before engaging the coolant system. Carbide is brittle — avoid interrupted cuts or side-loading that can cause chipping or breakage.
