The OSG 8690670 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with an EgiAs coating, this bit delivers hardness and heat resistance beyond standard high-speed steel tooling. The 140-degree R-thinned point reduces thrust and improves centering at entry, making it well suited for production environments where precision and tool life matter. At 6.70 mm in diameter with an overall length of 88.00 mm (3.46 inches), the short, rigid stub-length body minimizes deflection during drilling cycles. Internal coolant-through capability supports higher feed rates and extends tool life when paired with through-spindle coolant systems.
This drill bit is intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine setups where a rigid, compact cutting tool is required. The Series 6500 designation places it in OSG's high-performance carbide drill line. It is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank, 7.00 mm in diameter, fits standard ER and shrink-fit collet systems commonly used in precision machine shops and production facilities. It is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in industrial manufacturing settings.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and screw machines with collet or chuck systems accepting a 7.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy as specified by the manufacturer.
Install in a properly sized collet, shrink-fit holder, or drill chuck before mounting in the spindle. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the holder is torqued to the machine manufacturer's specification before beginning a cut. Disconnect power or engage an E-stop lockout before changing tooling. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm the machine's through-spindle coolant system is active and set to the appropriate pressure for the workpiece material and feed rate.
