The OSG 8690610 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard metals. The bit measures 0.2402 inches (6.10 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split point and features a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The R-thinned web reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability makes this bit well-suited for production machining environments where heat management is critical. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC and manual drilling operations on hard workpiece materials.
This drill bit is intended for use in ferrous and high-strength materials including steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The screw machine (stub) length profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a reliable choice for close-tolerance holes in production and job-shop environments. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet systems. Series 6500 designates this as an OSG high-performance carbide line intended for demanding material removal applications.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 7.00 mm is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet tool holders accepting that shank size.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds-and-feeds selection for carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not use carbide drill bits in hand-drill applications; carbide is brittle and requires rigid, low-vibration machine setups to prevent fracture.
