The OSG 8690330 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, this bit delivers superior wear resistance and extended tool life compared to standard high-speed steel tooling. The 140-degree split point reduces thrust and improves centering accuracy on entry. At 0.1299 inches (3.30 mm) in diameter, it features a right-hand spiral flute design with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for efficient chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production environments where heat management is critical. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this bit.
This bit is engineered for cutting steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys — materials common in aerospace, automotive, and precision machining operations. The screw machine length profile (shorter overall length than jobber bits) provides increased rigidity and reduced deflection in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inch) diameter is compatible with standard collet and chuck systems. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio suits through-hole and shallow-blind-hole work at production volumes.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and drill chucks sized for 4.00 mm shanks, as used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling and proper feeds and speeds for the target workpiece material. Ensure the spindle and workholding are powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Solid carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts beyond the tool's rated capacity, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Verify coolant-through supply pressure and flow are correctly configured before initiating production runs.
