Product Description

The OSG 8672960 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It measures 9.60 mm (0.3780 inches) in diameter with a 140-degree R-thinned point that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust load at entry. The overall length is 103.00 mm (4.0551 inches), and the flute length is 61.00 mm (2.4016 inches), delivering a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for moderate-depth holes. OSG applied their proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating to extend tool life and resist heat buildup in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance environments are the primary users.

This drill bit is designed for use on steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. It performs in blind hole, cross hole, and standard through-drilling operations. The 2-flute regular spiral geometry provides efficient chip evacuation during right-hand cutting. The straight cylindrical shank with a 10 mm shank diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills. This makes it a practical choice for production drilling where consistent hole quality and tool longevity are required.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard and abrasive workpiece materials
  • Proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating reduces friction and extends tool life in steel and cast iron
  • 140-degree R-thinned point promotes self-centering and reduces walking on entry
  • Regular 2-flute spiral geometry supports efficient chip removal in blind and cross hole applications
  • Tapered web configuration with R-thinned web improves cutting performance and reduces thrust
  • Straight cylindrical shank compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems

Compatibility

Designed for use in steel, cast iron, and hardened materials (workpiece material codes P, K, H). Fits standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 10 mm straight shank. Part of the OSG Series 6310 high-performance carbide drill lineup covering the 9.00 mm to 10.00 mm diameter range.

Installation Notes

Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured before initiating the cut. Carbide is brittle — avoid interrupted cuts or excessive runout, as either can cause premature chipping or breakage. This tool does not support coolant-through delivery; use external coolant or cutting fluid application where required by the workpiece material.
