The OSG 8672200 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous materials including steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It carries a 140-degree X-thinned point for improved self-centering and reduced thrust, and features an EgiAs coating for enhanced wear resistance and heat management at higher feed rates. The 2 mm diameter bit runs a regular spiral flute with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, delivering chip evacuation suited to blind hole and cross-hole applications. It is sized for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where tight diameter tolerances are required.
This bit is built for high-performance drilling in production and job-shop environments. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard collets and drill chucks. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole intersections, and self-centering starts in steel and cast iron components. The X-thinned web reduces the chisel edge load at entry, making it effective on interrupted cuts and close-tolerance work. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on steel fabrication and machine repair will find this bit appropriate for their workflow.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces as stated by the manufacturer. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, general drilling, and self-centering operations. Compatible with standard straight-shank collets and drill chucks accepting a 4 mm shank diameter.
Install and remove drill bits only with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down or in an e-stop state. Confirm the collet or chuck is rated for the shank diameter before seating the bit. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive runout or unsupported workpieces, as lateral shock loads can cause fracture. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
