The OSG 8671080 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous workpiece materials. It measures 0.4252 inches (10.80 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split-point geometry and an R-thinned web to reduce thrust and improve center-starting accuracy. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks or collet holders without modification. At 102.00 mm (approximately 4.02 inches) overall length, this stub-length bit offers increased rigidity compared to jobber-length equivalents, making it well suited for production environments where hole location and repeatability matter. Installation is handled by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators.
This drill bit is built for cutting steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine, CNC turning center, and machining center applications. The Series 6300 designation places it in OSGs high-performance carbide drill line, engineered for shops running tight tolerances on hard or abrasive ferrous materials. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio keeps chip evacuation efficient at the short flute lengths typical of screw machine operations. Coolant-through capability is not available on this model, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach for heat management in production runs.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Suitable for screw machine operations and CNC machining centers using standard straight-shank toolholding with a 12.00 mm bore.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists or CNC technicians. Confirm spindle RPM and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and hole depth before cutting. Secure the shank fully in the collet or drill chuck to the recommended grip depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not use this bit on nonferrous or composite materials outside its rated workpiece range, as carbide grades are optimized for the materials listed.
