The OSG 8670570 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 0.2244 inches (5.70 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split point and features a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The R-thinned web reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at the cutting start. At 66.00 mm overall length with a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank, this is a stub-length tool built for rigidity and accuracy in CNC machining centers and drill presses. It is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production environments.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its screw machine length provides increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well matched for close-tolerance hole work in automated or semi-automated setups. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance in shallow-to-moderate depth holes. Applications include component manufacturing, fixture work, and general metalworking where dimensional accuracy and tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits standard collets and drill chucks accepting a 6.00 mm straight shank. Part of the OSG Series 6300 high-performance drill line.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive runout or loosely clamped workpieces.
