The OSG 8670390 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. It measures 0.1535 inches (3.90 mm) in diameter with an overall length of approximately 2.598 inches (66.00 mm) and a flute length of approximately 0.945 inches (24.00 mm). The 140-degree split point geometry reduces walking and thrust load at entry. X-thinned web construction improves chip evacuation and reduces cutting resistance. This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production drilling operations requiring tight tolerances and consistent hole quality.
The OSG 8670390 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in production and job-shop environments. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well matched for short-reach applications on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute design support chip clearance in shallow-to-moderate depth holes. This bit does not include coolant-through capability and is intended for external coolant or dry cutting applications where appropriate for the material.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Falls within the OSG Series 6300 product family covering the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch (3.50 to 5.00 mm) diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in a compatible collet or drill chuck before operation. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed rate adjustments, and contact with hardened surfaces beyond the rated workpiece materials. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits before use to avoid premature tip fracture.
