The OSG 8670250 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It carries a 2.50 mm (0.0984 inch) diameter, a 140-degree split point, and an X-thinned web that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 4.00 mm in diameter and fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. At 62.00 mm overall length and a 14.00 mm flute length, this stub-length geometry provides extra rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for precision hole-making on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses alike.
This bit is designed for production drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. The screw machine (stub) length format is a common choice in high-volume machining environments where reduced tool overhang minimizes deflection and improves hole location accuracy. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry support efficient chip evacuation in short-depth holes. It does not include coolant-through capability, so it is best applied in operations where flood coolant or cutting oil is applied externally.
Suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits any drill chuck or collet accepting a 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Sized for applications within the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch (0.00 to 3.50 mm) drill bit size range per the Series 6300 product family.
Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout before starting a production run. Apply external flood coolant or cutting oil throughout the cut, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Solid carbide is brittle relative to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed management, or cross-drilling into existing holes at an angle without a guide. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping between uses, as carbide micro-chipping may not be visible without magnification.
