The OSG 8650400 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit measures 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches) in diameter with a 130-degree faceted point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The straight-cylindrical shank and regular spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. At 54.00 mm (2.126 inches) overall length, the stub-length body provides rigidity for precise, chatter-free performance in drilling centers, CNC machines, and drill presses. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
The OSG 8650400 Series 1150 drill bit is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Its screw machine length profile makes it a practical choice for short-reach drilling operations where rigidity and accuracy are critical — common in production machining, maintenance repair operations, and light fabrication environments. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate-depth holes without excessive deflection.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks, collets, and toolholders accepting a 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling steel, alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate as stated by the manufacturer. Part of OSG Series 1150.
This drill bit is installed by machinists or toolroom technicians in CNC machining centers, drill presses, or handheld drill drivers with an appropriate chuck or collet. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended engagement depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the rated speed and feed parameters specified by OSG for the target workpiece material.
