The OSG 86301309 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. It features a 5/8 inch (0.625 inch) mill diameter, a 1-7/8 inch (1.875 inch) length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length. The three-flute configuration combined with a 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding applications. Micrograin carbide construction provides edge hardness and wear resistance. This end mill is a single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute tool with centercutting capability, making it suitable for plunge and slot operations.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The 5/8 inch shank diameter matches standard collet and toolholder sizes common in job shops, production machining, and toolroom environments. The DLC coating makes it well-suited for non-ferrous metals, composites, and abrasive materials where heat and friction management are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators working on close-tolerance part features will find the micrograin carbide grade appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed for use in standard 5/8 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and toolholders on CNC machining centers and conventional milling machines. Confirm holder bore and projection requirements before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning any cut to protect the tool and workpiece.
