The OSG 8623222 is a cobalt extra length drill bit designed for drilling into hard and abrasive materials where a standard-length bit cannot reach or maintain rigidity. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with OSG WXL coating, the bit delivers extended wear resistance and heat management during high-feed drilling applications. The 120-degree split point with R-thinned web reduces thrust and improves centering on entry without a pilot hole. At a drill diameter of 0.0866 inches (2.20 mm) with a 20xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is suited for deep, precise holes in tight tolerances. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this type of tooling.
The OSG 8623222 is applied in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine operations where hole depth exceeds the capability of standard-length cobalt drills. The 52.00 mm flute length and 90.00 mm overall length allow access to recessed features and deep-hole applications in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking. Right-hand spiral flute geometry with regular spiral type promotes chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This bit does not include coolant-through capability, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling steel or stainless alloys at depth.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling component for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 2.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with CNC machining centers and manual drill press setups requiring extra length cobalt drill bits at the 2.20 mm diameter range.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for cobalt tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation to prevent runout. When drilling ferrous alloys or stainless steel at depth, apply cutting fluid externally to manage heat, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace tooling that shows signs of degradation to maintain hole quality and dimensional accuracy.
