The OSG 8623218 is a cobalt extra length drill bit designed for precision drilling in tough materials. Built from high-speed cobalt steel with a WXL finish, this bit delivers extended tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials such as stainless steel, high-temp alloys, and hardened steels. The 0.0709 inch (1.80 mm) diameter and 85.00 mm overall length make it well suited for deep-hole applications where a standard-length bit cannot reach. The 120-degree drill point angle and R-thinned web geometry reduce thrust force and improve centering accuracy on entry. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working on precision equipment and fabrication applications are the primary installers of this bit.
This bit is used in machine shop, production floor, and maintenance environments where small-diameter, deep-reach drilling is required. The 20xD flute-by-diameter ratio provides the extra reach needed for through-holes in deep workpieces. With a straight cylindrical shank measuring 2.00 mm in diameter, it seats securely in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and precision tool holders. Right-hand cutting direction and a regular spiral flute type ensure compatibility with conventional vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers running standard spindle rotation.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and CNC tool holders accepting a 2.00 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers using right-hand spindle rotation.
This bit should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with small-diameter tooling practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation, and verify runout with a dial indicator when precision is critical. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to manage heat, as small-diameter cobalt bits are sensitive to thermal shock from interrupted cuts. Replace the bit at the first sign of edge chipping or excessive thrust increase to avoid bit breakage in the workpiece.
