The OSG 8612952 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. Built from powdered metal with a V coating, it runs at the speeds and feeds demanded by production drilling in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. The 130-degree point angle and R-thinned web reduce entry thrust and improve self-centering, making it a reliable choice for blind holes, cross holes, and through-hole drilling. Overall length is 137 mm (approximately 5.4 inches) with a flute length of 87 mm (approximately 3.4 inches). Shank diameter is 10 mm (approximately 0.39 inches) with a straight-cylindrical profile that seats cleanly in standard chucks and tool holders.
This bit is suited for machining shops, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working on ferrous metals and hard alloys. It fits applications where a general-purpose cobalt or HSS bit falls short — particularly in interrupted cuts, cross-hole entry, and production runs on alloy steel or nickel alloy components. The regular spiral geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in both CNC and manual drilling setups. Its 3/8-inch (0.3750 decimal inch) diameter fits within the 0.3500 to 0.4000 inch range for this series.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces (material codes P, K, S, H). Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
Install and remove the bit with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified holding depth before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so apply external coolant or cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges and web condition before each use — a chipped or worn thinned web increases thrust and reduces hole quality.
