The OSG 8612737 is a jobber-length drill bit sized at Letter L (0.2900 inch / 7.37 mm) and built from powdered metal with a V coating for improved wear resistance and heat dissipation. The point is ground to 130 degrees with an R-thinned web, which reduces thrust force and aids self-centering when entering the workpiece. The spiral flute geometry is a regular helix with a tapered web configuration, and the cutting direction is right hand. With an overall length of 113 mm and a flute length of 69 mm, this is a standard jobber-length tool suited to drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools used in metalworking trades.
This bit is rated for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces, placing it in material groups P, K, S, and H. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole operations, general through-hole drilling, and self-centering entry cuts. The straight-cylindrical shank with an 8.00 mm diameter seats in standard drill chucks and collets without modification. It is classified as a high-performance grade tool, making it appropriate for production environments where cycle time and tool life matter, not just occasional use.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Compatible with any drill press, CNC machining center, or handheld tool equipped with a chuck or collet accepting an 8.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of OSG Series 1950.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling nickel alloys and hardened steels to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edge and web thinning for wear or chipping before each use; a worn R-thinned point will wander on entry and produce oversized holes. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection based on workpiece material.
