The OSG 8612714 is a 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch / 7.15 mm) powdered metal jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. It features a 130-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry for improved self-centering and reduced thrust. The V coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding applications. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks and collet systems. This bit is suited for production environments and trade shops where tool life and hole quality in tough materials are priorities. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users.
The OSG 8612714 is built for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. It is part of OSG Series 1950, a high-performance line engineered for difficult workpiece materials. The regular spiral and tapered web configuration maintain chip evacuation and cutting edge strength across the full 69 mm flute length. Applications span general production drilling, maintenance repair operations, and fabrication work requiring consistent hole tolerances in hard or abrasive stock.
Rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpiece materials (ISO material codes P, K, S, and H). Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications. No coolant-through capability; use with external flood or mist coolant as required by application.
Install in a drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with a chuck capacity that accepts an 8 mm straight shank. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before operation. Power down the machine and confirm zero rotation before changing or inspecting the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maintain coating integrity and extend tool life.
