The OSG 8612690 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter I (0.2717 inches / 6.91 mm) and manufactured from powdered metal with a V coating for improved wear resistance and heat management. The 130-degree split point features R-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust and promotes self-centering without a pilot hole. Overall length is 4.45 inches (113 mm) with a flute length of 2.72 inches (69 mm). The straight-cylindrical shank measures 8 mm in diameter, fitting standard drill chucks. This bit is built for high-performance applications in ferrous and hard-material drilling environments and is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals.
The OSG 8612690 is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, through-hole drilling, and self-centering operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys, covering a broad range of industrial and maintenance machining tasks. The tapered web configuration and regular spiral geometry support consistent chip evacuation in these materials. This bit does not support coolant-through delivery and is intended for use in conventional drilling setups with flood coolant or cutting fluid applied externally.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Suitable for any standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand-held drill with a chuck accepting an 8 mm straight shank. Part of OSG Series 1950.
Install the shank fully into the drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before starting the cut. Apply cutting fluid or flood coolant externally during drilling to manage heat, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and web area for wear or chipping before each use.
