The OSG 8612450 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a V coating, this bit handles demanding applications where standard HSS tooling falls short. It carries a 130-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry for improved self-centering and reduced thrust in harder workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 91.00 mm (approximately 3.58 inches). This is a two-flute, spiral-flute design in OSG Series 1950, sized at wire size 16, which equals 0.1770 inches (4.50 mm) in decimal and metric terms. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This bit is suited for blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering operations in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. The regular spiral and tapered web configuration make it effective across a broad range of ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces. It is a solid choice for production floor environments, maintenance shops, and job shops where tight diameter tolerances are required. The diameter tolerance is held to +0 to -0.018 mm, supporting consistent, repeatable hole quality in precision applications.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces as specified by OSG material codes P, K, S, and H. Suited for any machine tool or handheld drill accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank with sufficient RPM and feed capability for the workpiece material.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals using drill presses, CNC machining centers, or handheld power drills. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck are powered down and fully stopped before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for steel and nickel alloys to preserve coating life and maintain hole quality. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant application is required in high-heat applications.
