The OSG 8612430 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 18 wire gauge (0.1695 inches / 4.30 mm diameter) and built from powdered metal (PM) with a V coating for improved wear resistance. The 130-degree split point uses R-thinned web geometry to reduce walking and minimize the thrust needed to start a hole, making it well suited for production drilling in tough ferrous materials. Overall length is 91 mm with a 47 mm flute length and a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently. This bit is designed for right-hand cutting and is installed by licensed machinists or skilled tradespeople running drill presses, CNC machines, or hand-held power tools.
This bit is rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. It is suited for blind holes, cross holes, general drilling, and self-centering applications where the R-thinned point eliminates the need for a center punch in many setups. The V coating extends tool life compared to uncoated PM bits when cutting through abrasive workpiece materials. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling harder alloys.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces across blind hole, cross hole, drilling, and self-centering tool applications per OSG Series 1950. The straight-cylindrical shank fits any standard drill chuck sized to accept a 6 mm shank.
Power down or de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing or securing the bit in the chuck. Tighten the chuck firmly and confirm the bit runs true before beginning a cut. Apply external cutting fluid or coolant when drilling harder alloys, as this bit has no coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if damage is observed.
