The OSG 8612305 is a jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. Built from powdered metal (PM) with a V coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat dissipation compared to standard HSS tooling. The bit features a 130-degree drill point angle with X-thinned web geometry for reduced thrust and easier self-centering. At 68 millimeters overall length with a 36-millimeter flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 4.00 millimeters in diameter. This is a right-hand cut, two-flute, spiral flute bit built for production and maintenance drilling environments.
The OSG 8612305 is rated for drilling into steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. It is suited for blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering applications. Wire size 31 corresponds to a decimal inch diameter of 0.1200 inches (3.05 millimeters), making it a common size for tapping pilot holes and precision bore work in metal fabrication, toolroom, and industrial maintenance settings. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with tight-tolerance hole requirements will find the X-thinned point and tapered web configuration particularly useful for minimizing walking and reducing breakout burrs.
Designed as a high-performance jobber length drill bit for use in drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, and through-drilling operations per OSG Series 1950 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool operators familiar with drill press, lathe, or CNC machining center setup. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and confirm runout before cutting. Power down and de-energize all machine spindles before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and machine type.
