The OSG 8612208 is a jobber length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from powdered metal (PM) with a V coating, this bit carries a wire gauge size of 45, which equals 0.0820 inches (2.08 mm) in decimal. The 130-degree X-thinned point reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. With a straight-cylindrical shank at 3.00 mm diameter and a regular spiral flute configuration, it fits standard drill chucks and produces consistent, clean holes. Overall length is 56 mm with a 24 mm flute length. Installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working in production or field environments.
This bit is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. The tapered web and X-thinned point geometry work together to reduce walking and improve chip evacuation in these harder materials. Series 1950 designates OSG high-performance jobber geometry, making this an appropriate choice for production drilling where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. Right-hand cut direction is standard for conventional drill press and CNC spindle use.
Designed for use in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy per primary workpiece material codes P, K, S, and H.
Install in a properly sized collet or drill chuck and verify runout before production use. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during drilling, particularly in cross-hole and blind-hole operations. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant where tooling setup permits, as coolant-through is not available on this bit. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping between uses, and replace when diameter tolerance or point geometry is compromised.
