The OSG 8599008 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous metals and hard alloys. It measures 0.80 mm (0.0315 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 38.00 mm (approximately 1.50 inches) and a shank diameter of 3.00 mm (approximately 0.118 inches). The bit is manufactured from XPM high-speed steel and features an XPM coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. A 130-degree split point angle reduces walking and improves entry accuracy. The X-Thinned web configuration lowers thrust requirements, making it well suited for precision drilling on manual machines, CNC equipment, and screw machine setups. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers of this bit.
The OSG 8599008 is intended for drilling into steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. Its screw machine length profile -- shorter than a jobber bit -- provides added rigidity and reduced deflection in short-reach applications. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit is well matched to production environments where dimensional accuracy and tool life consistency are critical, including machining shops, maintenance facilities, and precision fabrication operations.
Designed as a high-performance screw machine length drill bit for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces across the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch decimal inch size range, OSG Series 1900.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. The straight-cylindrical shank should be secured in a properly sized collet or drill chuck to the full engagement depth to prevent slippage under cutting loads. Always verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before starting the cut. Handle small-diameter bits with care to avoid bending or chipping the flutes during setup.
