The OSG 8597516 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. It is ground from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness and extends tool life in production and repetitive drilling environments. The bit features a 120-degree S-thinned point that reduces thrust force and improves self-centering on entry. With a 13/64 inch (0.2031 inch) diameter, a 2-flute spiral configuration, and a straight-cylindrical shank, this bit is sized for standard drill chucks used by machinists, pipefitters, and general maintenance technicians.
The OSG 8597516 is suited for blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, standard through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications across light industrial and commercial maintenance settings. Its 96 mm overall length and 52 mm flute length place it in the standard jobber range, making it compatible with benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held electric drills. It is a right-hand-cut bit intended for conventional clockwise-rotation drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous base materials including aluminum silicate composites.
Designed for use in standard jobber-length drill applications on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed prior to powering on. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support through-tool coolant delivery. Clamp workpieces firmly to prevent walking or grabbing, particularly when breaking through. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping between uses; a dull TiN-coated bit should be replaced rather than reground unless the operator has precision regrinding equipment.
