The OSG 8597498 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. It is manufactured from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, which extends tool life and reduces friction during cutting. The bit measures 0.1961 inches (wire size 9, 4.98 mm) in diameter with a 120-degree S-thinned point that reduces thrust and improves self-centering. Overall length is 96 mm with a 52 mm flute length. This is an OSG Series 1600 tool suited for production and maintenance drilling environments where consistent hole quality is required.
This bit is used in blind hole drilling, cross-hole operations, standard through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. It is well suited to CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance-repair settings. Primary workpiece materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloys, and aluminum silicate. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters, making it easy to deploy across common shop and field equipment.
Designed for use in drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 6 mm straight shank. Suitable for blind hole, cross-hole, through-hole, and self-centering drilling operations per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
Install the bit securely in a properly sized drill chuck, ensuring full shank engagement before operation. Power down or de-energize all equipment before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended runs in steel or stainless steel, even though this bit does not support through-tool coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edge and TiN coating for wear before each use and replace when point geometry is compromised to maintain hole-size tolerance.
