The OSG 8597476 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, mechanical trades, and general industrial applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended wear resistance and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The bit measures 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) in diameter with a 120-degree split point and S-thinned web for self-centering entry without a center punch. Overall length is 96 mm with a 52 mm flute length. It features a straight cylindrical shank with a 6 mm shank diameter and a regular right-hand spiral flute pattern.
This drill bit is suited for blind hole, cross hole, and through-hole drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys including aluminum silicate. It is a practical choice for HVAC fabricators, sheet metal mechanics, plumbers, and general maintenance technicians working with structural steel and aluminum components. The S-thinned web point reduces thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation, making it effective in both hand-held and drill-press setups. It is sold as a single unit.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accommodating a 6 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces in blind hole, cross hole, and self-centering drilling applications per Series 1600 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade technicians familiar with rotating tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to maintain edge life, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped before drilling to prevent bit walking or workpiece movement.
