The OSG 8597462 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in metalworking applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel (HSS) and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit handles steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys with consistent performance. It measures 0.1819 inches (No. 14 wire size) in diameter, spans 3.583 inches overall, and features a 120-degree split point with S-thinned web for self-centering entry and reduced thrust. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This is a high-performance grade bit suited for production and maintenance drilling by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and MRO professionals.
The OSG 8597462 is applied in blind-hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and standard through-hole operations across light and medium production environments. Primary workpiece materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The 1.850-inch flute length accommodates typical jobber-depth cuts, and the regular spiral geometry evacuates chips efficiently in these materials. This bit is sold individually and is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held electric drills with a compatible chuck.

Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained technician familiar with cutting tool safety. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the machine spindle is at a full stop before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck. Select an appropriate spindle speed and feed rate based on the workpiece material and hole diameter to avoid overheating the TiN coating. Do not use this bit as a reamer or attempt to sharpen the TiN-coated surface with standard bench grinder techniques without appropriate tool grinding equipment.
