The OSG 8597457 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. Built from vanadium high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this wire gauge size 15 bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding production and maintenance drilling applications. The 120-degree split point with S-thinned web geometry promotes self-centering on entry, reducing the need for a center punch on flat or curved surfaces. Overall length is 91 millimeters with a flute length of 47 millimeters, making it well suited for portable drill presses, benchtop machines, and handheld drill motors in metalworking environments.
This bit fits standard jobber-length drilling applications across fabrication shops, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, and general mechanical assembly. It handles blind holes, cross holes, and through-drilling in steel and non-ferrous metals up to the capacity of the machine being used. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 6 millimeter diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks without requiring specialized toolholders. Series 1600 production from OSG targets professional tradespeople and machinists who need consistent dimensional accuracy on repeat drilling tasks.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications per OSG Series 1600 specifications. Compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 6 millimeter straight-cylindrical shank.
Install and remove this bit only with the drill motor fully powered down and the chuck key removed from the chuck. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation or movement under cutting load. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges before each use; a worn or chipped edge should be replaced rather than reground to preserve the coated geometry.
