The OSG 8597445 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Ground from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction when cutting ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It measures 4.45 mm in diameter with an overall length of 91 mm and a flute length of 47 mm. The 120-degree split point (S-thinned) reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at the start of a hole without a center punch in many situations. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6 mm in diameter for secure chuck engagement.
This bit is suited for production drilling, maintenance shops, and tool rooms working with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross holes, through-hole drilling, and self-centering starts on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power drills. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in these common workpiece materials. It is sold individually and is appropriate for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and skilled tradespeople requiring a tight-tolerance general-purpose drill bit.
Designed for use with standard drill chucks accepting a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank; suitable for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces as specified by OSG for Series 1600.
Installation and use of this drill bit should follow standard machine shop safety practices, including securing the workpiece before drilling and confirming chuck runout is within acceptable limits. Ensure the drilling machine is powered down and the chuck is fully disengaged before inserting or removing the bit. Cutting speed and feed rate should be selected based on workpiece material and machine capability; consult OSG Series 1600 application data for recommended parameters. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling stainless steel or in high-cycle production runs.
