The OSG 8597397 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal and alloy workpieces. Built from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS. The 130-degree S-thinned point promotes self-centering and reduces thrust force, making it well suited for accurate entry on steel and stainless steel. Overall length is 75 millimeters with a 43-millimeter flute length and a straight cylindrical shank measuring 4.00 millimeters in diameter. The two-flute spiral design with a tapered web configuration supports efficient chip evacuation during through and blind hole drilling.
This bit is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloys, and aluminum silicate. It is sized at 5/32 inch (0.1562 inch decimal, 3.97 millimeters) and fits within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 decimal inch drill size range. Common applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, standard drilling operations, and self-centering entry points. Install into a properly sized drill chuck and verify secure clamping before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or harder steel alloys to preserve the TiN coating and cutting edge life. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent bit walking, even with the S-thinned self-centering point. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or coating wear is evident.
