The OSG 8597318 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding drilling applications. The 1/8 inch (3.18 mm) diameter bit features a 130-degree S-thinned point that improves self-centering performance and reduces the thrust force required to start a hole. At 68 mm overall length with a 36 mm flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders with a straight cylindrical 4 mm shank. Manufactured under OSG Series 1600 to a diameter tolerance of +0 to -0.018 mm, this bit is suited for machinists, fabricators, and trade professionals who require consistent, repeatable results.
This bit is engineered for drilling into steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. It handles blind holes, cross holes, through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. The regular spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers. It is well suited for HVAC fabricators, plumbers, electricians, and metalworking shops that drill sheet metal, structural steel, and aluminum extrusions on a daily basis.
Compatible with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpiece materials. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications as identified by OSG for the Series 1600 product line.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck or collet, verifying the shank seats fully and the set screw or chuck jaws are tightened before operation. Power down and lock out the drill press or CNC spindle before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for stainless steel and harder steel alloys to manage heat; this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edge and TiN coating condition before each use and replace if chipping or coating wear is visible.
