The OSG 8597254 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal and alloy applications. Manufactured from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding production and maintenance environments. It runs a 130-degree split point with S-thinned web geometry, which promotes self-centering without a center punch, reduces thrust force, and minimizes walking on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3.00 mm in diameter and seats securely in standard keyless or keyed drill chucks. Overall length is 62 mm with a 30 mm flute length. This is a Series 1600 high-performance ground drill bit sold individually.
This drill bit is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. It is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and general through-hole work in job shop, maintenance, and light manufacturing settings. The 2.54 mm diameter corresponds to 0.1000 decimal inch, placing it in the fine-diameter range used frequently for pilot holes, tapping pre-drill operations, and close-tolerance hole work on machined components. Right-hand cut and regular spiral flute geometry work with standard clockwise-rotating drill presses, CNC machines, and handheld power drills.
Designed for use in standard keyless and keyed drill chucks accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drill press, CNC machining center, and handheld power drill applications where a jobber-length drill bit in the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm diameter range is required.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operating and verify runout before beginning a production run. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing tooling. For hand drilling, use appropriate workholding to prevent part movement during entry. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate appropriate to the workpiece material and hole depth.
