The OSG 8597242 is a TiN-coated vanadium high speed steel jobber drill bit designed for precision drilling in metal and alloy workpieces. It features a 2.42 mm diameter, a 130-degree S-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a regular spiral flute with right-hand cutting direction. The titanium nitride coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life in production drilling applications. With an overall length of 62.00 mm and a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank, this bit fits standard drill chucks used in machining and fabrication environments. It is sold individually and suited for high-performance drilling tasks.
This jobber drill is built for drilling into steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. It handles blind holes, cross holes, through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. The tapered web configuration and S-thinned point reduce thrust requirements at entry. Typical use cases include machine shop drilling, maintenance and repair operations, and sheet metal fabrication where accurate small-diameter holes are required. The 30.00 mm flute length provides sufficient chip clearance for the workpiece materials targeted by this series.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill for standard drill chucks and CNC drilling equipment accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die professionals familiar with small-diameter drill bit handling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before engaging the workpiece. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed range for the workpiece material to avoid bit breakage at this diameter.
