The OSG 8597238 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose and high-performance drilling in metal, alloy, and composite workpieces. It measures 3/32 inch (2.38 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 62 mm and a flute length of 30 mm. The bit is manufactured from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction during cutting. The 130-degree split-point (S-thinned) tip promotes self-centering and reduces the need for a center punch on most materials. With a right-hand spiral flute and tapered web construction, it is suited for blind hole, cross hole, and standard through-hole drilling operations performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals.
This bit is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces, making it a versatile choice across fabrication, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical service work. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 3 mm shank diameter fits standard keyless and keyed drill chucks. It is part of the OSG Series 1600, a high-performance jobber drill line intended for demanding production and service environments where dimensional accuracy and tool durability are priorities.
Suitable for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 3 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Rated workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
Install in a keyed or keyless chuck and ensure the shank is fully seated before tightening. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent walking or bit deflection, particularly in thin-gauge sheet metal. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edge for wear before each use; a dull or chipped tip on a small-diameter bit can cause breakage under load.
