The OSG 8595457 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS. The bit measures 2.68 inches in overall length with a 120-degree faceted point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces entry force and improves chip evacuation. With a wire gauge size of 15 (0.1800 decimal inch, 4.57 mm), it is suited for precision hole-making in production and job-shop environments. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators are the typical end users.
This bit is used in screw machine operations, manual drill presses, and CNC machining centers where short, rigid tooling is required. The screw machine length body provides greater stability and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.2362 inch (6 mm) diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification.
The OSG 8595457 is designed for use on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. It is part of OSG Series 1100 and fits applications requiring a wire gauge size 15 hole within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 decimal inch size range.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel using a standard drill chuck or collet sized for a 6 mm straight shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable tolerance to maintain hole accuracy given the stated diameter tolerance of +0 to -0.018 mm. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material to maximize tool life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery.
