The OSG 8595171 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling in professional machining and fabrication environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a coated finish, the bit measures 0.0673 inches (1.71 mm) in diameter and features a 140-degree faceted drill point for accurate, self-centering entry with reduced thrust force. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation during drilling. At an overall length of approximately 1.69 inches (43 mm), this screw machine length format offers added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance work on drill presses, CNC machines, and automatic screw machines.
The 8595171 is intended for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Its compact screw machine length and straight-cylindrical shank allow direct mounting in standard chucks and collets without special adapters. Typical applications include production drilling, precision hole-making in sheet metal and structural components, and repetitive-cycle operations on automated equipment. This bit is used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and metal fabricators working in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collets sized for the 3.00 mm (approximately 0.118 inch) shank diameter. Part of the OSG Series 1100 screw machine drill line.
Install in a properly sized chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning production drilling. Machinists should select appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the specific workpiece material to avoid premature edge wear or bit breakage at this small diameter. Use cutting fluid or mist coolant where permitted by the machine setup, as coolant-through is not available on this bit. Inspect the cutting edge for wear regularly, as small-diameter HSS bits are sensitive to overloading and deflection.
