The OSG 8594057 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, this bit handles steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The 120-degree split point uses an X-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust force and promotes self-centering entry without a center punch. At 5.7 mm in diameter and 93 mm overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and collet holders in both bench-top and handheld applications. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking, fabrication, and mechanical service environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard 3-jaw chucks without runout concerns at typical jobber speeds. Supported tool applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, general drilling, and self-centering starts on flat or curved surfaces. The Series 1800 designation places this bit in OSG high-performance jobber stock, appropriate for CNC drill press, radial arm drill, and handheld power tool use where consistent diameter tolerance across a production run is required.
Designed for use in any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting a 5.7 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces per OSG material codes P, M, K, and N.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the shank fully into the chuck or collet and verify runout before production drilling. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed and feed rate for the workpiece material, as overheating will degrade the TiCN coating and reduce tool life. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or cast iron.
