The OSG 8557350 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) finish, this tool delivers extended wear resistance and low-friction cutting performance. It features a 3 mm cutting diameter, a 15 mm length of cut, and a 40-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Three flutes provide a balance between chip clearance and surface finish quality. The 6 mm shank diameter and 55 mm overall length make it compatible with standard collet and tool holder setups on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for high-precision applications including slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The DLC coating is particularly effective when machining non-ferrous metals, composites, graphite, and other abrasive materials where tool life and surface finish are critical. It is a single-end, right-hand cutting tool with right-hand flute direction, center-cutting capable, making it suitable for plunge entry as well as conventional milling operations. Machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians will find this tool appropriate for both production and prototype work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 6 mm shank diameter in standard ER collets or milling chucks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in an e-stop state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or tool holder to the manufacturer-recommended insertion depth and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout significantly reduces tool life on small-diameter carbide end mills.
