The OSG 84702323 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for finishing operations in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built to Series 8470 specifications, it features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 0.0300-inch corner radius, and six flutes with a 43-degree high helix angle. The DUROREY PVD coating provides thermal resistance and surface hardness suited for dry or semi-dry cutting in hardened steels and alloy steels. This is a single-end, centercutting tool with right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction, intended for use in CNC machining centers by skilled machinists working in tool and die, mold, and precision component applications.
This end mill is designed for finishing passes in hard materials including alloy steel, die steel, and hardened steel. Its close-pitch flute geometry and high helix angle support chip evacuation in tough materials. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders. It is appropriate for use in vertical and horizontal machining centers where tight surface finish tolerances and corner geometry control are required.
Compatible with standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary use in hard materials (Material Application Code H) including alloy steel, die steel, and hardened steel, with secondary suitability for general steel (Code P).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is in a safe state before mounting or removing the tool. Verify toolholder runout with a dial indicator before committing to finishing cuts, as runout directly affects surface finish and tool life with six-flute geometries. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications when tightening collet nuts or set screws.
