The OSG 84100723 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing operations in hard materials and steel. It carries a 0.375 inch cutting diameter with a 0.1875 inch nose radius and a 0.563 inch length of cut. The DUROREY PVD coating is engineered to extend tool life in demanding cutting environments, particularly in high-hardness steels where heat and wear resistance are critical. The stub-length geometry keeps the tool rigid and reduces deflection, making it well suited for close-tolerance finishing passes. Machinists and toolroom operators working in job shops, die and mold, and precision manufacturing environments will find this mill appropriate for both roughing and finishing strategies.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills capable of running solid carbide tooling. Its right-hand cut and right-hand helical flutes follow standard climb-milling and conventional-milling practices. The 20-degree low helix angle is optimized for stability in hard material applications where a higher helix angle would introduce excessive radial forces. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard 3/8 inch collets and end mill holders. It is a single-end tool from OSG Series 8410, targeted at steel and hard material primary workpiece codes P and H.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and mill spindles accepting a 3/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are hard steels and alloy steels; secondary compatibility covers general steel grades per OSG material codes H and P.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or removing the tool from its holder. Seat the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use; a damaged carbide edge can fracture unpredictably under cutting load.
