The OSG 84100623 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing operations in hard materials and steel. It carries a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) mill diameter with a matching 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank and a 15/32 inch length of cut. The overall length is 3-1/2 inches. A 20-degree low helix angle and DUROREY PVD coating make this tool well-suited for demanding cutting conditions where tool life and surface finish quality are critical priorities. It is a single-end, stub-length design intended for professional machinists and tool-room applications.
This end mill is built for roughing and finishing passes in hard materials, with steel listed as a secondary workpiece material. The stub-length configuration provides rigidity in setups where tool deflection must be minimized. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC milling applications. No coolant-through feature is present, so external coolant or mist lubrication should be applied as appropriate for the workpiece material and cutting parameters.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide ball end mill in the OSG Series 8410 line, suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for a 5/16 inch shank to maintain runout tolerance. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling in the applicable workpiece material; refer to OSG Series 8410 cutting data charts for recommended parameters.
